East and central Toronto, door by door
Older Toronto streets have older doors. That changes what a good repair looks like.
Older semis and row houses
- Doors in East York, the Danforth and the Beaches are often decades old, with worn frames and original hardware.
- A new deadbolt in a soft frame does not add security; the strike and frame matter.
- Rim locks and mortise sets can often be repaired or rekeyed.
Condos and lofts
- Downtown and waterfront condos have concierge rules and fob systems.
- Suite doors are fire-rated; hardware changes should respect that.
Storefronts
- Danforth, Queen East and Gerrard have older aluminum and wood storefronts.
- Closers and pivots wear with daily use.
Timing
Traffic and parking limit arrival times downtown. We give an honest estimate rather than a fixed promise.
Central and west Toronto
Toronto is about twenty kilometres from our Scarborough office, so arrival windows for downtown, the Danforth and the west end are longer than for Scarborough. Tell the dispatcher the building and the cross streets, and whether a loading zone or visitor parking is available for a service vehicle.
Buildings that need a plan
Downtown towers, King West lofts and Yorkville condos often have a concierge, elevator booking and a strict rule on who may enter. Older rowhouses in the Annex, the Beaches and Leslieville have original frames and worn hardware. Businesses along Queen Street and Bay Street need closers, exit devices and key control. We ask the right questions before dispatching so the visit runs smoothly.
