Talk to the building
- Call the concierge. Some buildings hold a suite key or can send security.
- Ask whether outside contractors must be registered.
Arrange access
- Visitor parking or a loading zone for the technician.
- Elevator booking if required.
- A contact who can meet the technician at the door.
The suite door
- Your unit door is usually your responsibility, within the rules.
- It may be fire-rated; hardware changes must respect that.
Fobs and lockers
- Report a lost fob immediately so it can be cancelled.
- Lockers and mailboxes may belong to different parties.
Getting the technician up the tower
Tell the concierge that a locksmith is coming, and give the company name and the expected arrival window. Ask whether a fob or an escort is needed for the elevator, and where a service vehicle may stop. Buildings near Scarborough Town Centre and along Sheppard often limit visitor parking, so arranging a spot early avoids a delay.
What the concierge can and cannot do
Many desks can confirm your identity and may hold a suite key, but policies differ. Some will not release a key without written authorization from the owner. A locksmith cannot override building rules, so it helps to have your ID and lease or ownership details ready.
After you are back inside
Report a lost fob straight away so it can be deactivated, and ask whether a temporary fob is available. If the suite lock is worn or you lost keys, check with management before changing the cylinder, since some corporations control the hardware.
